Artist-in-Hotel Project

mucha-kucha

Overview

We were in charge of producing a residency program at Park Hotel Tokyo, a hotel with the theme of “Infinite Time and Space Amid Cognizant Japanese Beauty”. The program, originally held in guest rooms, was expanded and held at the hotel’s Japanese restaurant, Hanasanshou.

By using the walls and windows of the private rooms as canvases, the private rooms themselves were expressed as works of art.
The theme of the artwork is “Iroha-uta,” a traditional Japanese poem.
The wisteria trellis, a familiar place of rest and relaxation in Japanese daily life, was reinterpreted in calligraphy using the Japanese syllabary.
The coloring, mainly green, yellow, and silver, is inspired by kaiseki cuisine.
